Canal Street Sheffield, wire

This scene in a Sheffield wire factory caught my eye while I was mooching around Sheffield’s back streets near the canal a few weeks ago, thanks to the way the rust coloured containers were matched by the carelessly abandoned reels of wire. I assumed this was a remnant of the city’s metal industry, but I suppose the wire might just a easily have been imported and sold on these days. Checking up out of curiosity, the firm was set up in 1984 and actually make shotblasting pellets by cutting the wire up; it is then used for cleaning steel castings and the like. I’d quite like to see the machine that does that!
