I-Spy On The Road book

[1]  News Chronicle – cover in colour. 195-

There are so many things to spot on this title which would be impossible to find today outside of a museum, and the illustrations really demonstrates the pace of change in our streetscapes during the last 50 years. Even by the sixties the horsedrawn Gypsy Caravan (15 points) which dominates the cover was quite a rarity. Yet ironically, the racing cyclist dashing past it is perhaps now more common than ever.
AA boxes, mobile banks, postboxes on the backs of buses, and signs offering Peacocks For Sale (rare even then at 25 points) add to the vintage feel.  My favourite is the roadside warning sign “Danger! Children Slide Down Bank”.
