“Auntie Laura in Bridlington, 1951”
Celebrating the largely forgotten craze for street photographs. Right up as late as the seventies in Britain, cameramen roamed the streets and promenades of our seaside towns. They’d snap people walking along, and try to sell them a postcard print for half a crown. We’ve been fascinated by this much ignored aspect of portrait photography and have a site (Go Home On A Postcard) devoted to documenting the work. Learn about the history of the firms behind it, and check dozens of examples out. You may have some in your own photo albums, in which case do get in touch.
