I Spy Everyday machines News Chronicle

“This is the machine age…” Another book which got dropped before the last revamp, probably as many of the machines illustrated were dated by then and the title didn’t sell enough to justify being fully redrawn. As it is, the book presents us with a fascinating look at early versions of gadgets some of which which may still be in use but have changed so much in the intervening years. That said the pages of the typewriter and duplicating machines have passed into history for most people, and the sight of a “TV Interference Officer” (who also pops up on the cover) is something long gone. But elsewhere the foot operated electric hand-drier hints at things to come, while the combined radiogram and TV set looks larger than many people’s living rooms.
