Weetabix Dr. Who

Strange what you find when you’re not really looking.  Back in the Seventies, it didn’t take long to work out that British breakfast cereal boxes were just the right size to store Marvel comics, so I used to put them aside for just that.  It was only recently when a younger brother spotted these that he suggested the boxes may be worth more than some of the comics.  And then begged one off me for his own toy collection.

Well who knows, though there is someone trying to sell a cut off box front from this set for £40 online as I write. These boxes were a special promotion from Weetabix during 1977.  I remember from my own childhood the excellent stereo view cards they gave away. You needed to send off so many box tokens and could get a stereo viewer for these. So like most cereal makers they’ve clearly been tempting kids for many years.  They had already done a different Doctor Who pack two years before (Dr. Who And His Enemies), and as then the deal was you got three small collectors cards showing figures inside which could intereact with the (fairly basic!) game (there were eight to collect) or scene on the back of the box.

The dice is on the end of the box to cut out and instructions on how to travel through time are given on the side. I’ve yet to try them out.

Oh, and here’s two dry Weetabix in a bowl courtesy Wikipedia… or there’s a Katy Manning stamp the Royal Mail never got around to doing on the site!
