I-Spy • The Army

Despite recent memories of the war, this was not an easy I-Spy book for children to fill in even in the mid-fifties, and most of the military vehicles and tanks would rarely be seen outside army bases and parade days. There are also pages of detailed vehicle insignias and army badges. “There’s something about a soldier…” runs the intro from Big Chief I-Spy, before inviting kids to “spot the gun that routed Rommel.”  The Ovenden cover illustration has a great image of a Churchill tank racing through a village. I do not know if it was updated for the later edition. The title was phased out in the early sixties and does not appear in the 1964 revamp.
