Photo Wallets • 2

Another collection of film photo wallets, very ephemeral printed items which were not really expected to last for 60+ years.  Many were off the shelf wallets supplied by wholesalers to dealers who could then have them overprinted with their own address by a local jobbing printer or just using a rubber stamp.  The bigger shops and chains of print developers could afford to have their own designs made up, while some chemists used branded wallets from the big film companies like Ilford and Kodak and again ha their own details added.

The Daktari-like blue on white design is from the WPFA, a wholesale photographic finishers who would process prints for numerous local businesses.  The two photo wallets from Whitehead’s in Huddersfield are a hard to date accurately, but could be from the 1940s.  The shop itself was opened in 1909. I particularly like the jazzy image of the 120 roll film.

Ralph Cuthbert Ltd. of Huddersfield is a trade wallet overprinted with their store name and dates from the 1960s.

D. M. Bentley at Brighouse have simply pasted their own name over a Photokina branded wallet. This is more or less all that now remains from a business that might have been going for years.
