Costello Ladies Tailor Hull 1925

Another fascinating old box, this one made out of sturdy cardboard to transport ladies dresses from F Costello “Ladies’ Tailor and Outfitters” in Hull.  I’ve not been able to find out much about the history of the firm but unusually we can date it to May 1925, as the underside still has the original decorative transport label and the franking mark.  The elaborate red lettering on the front is even embossed for added impact!  I like the way the artist doing the lettering has randomly elongated the L in the word Ladies, and added a fancy decorated capital F to just one word. Sadly the grand shop on Jameson Street (know locally as Jameson corner) was destroyed by enemy action in WW2.
