From the looks of it, this shipping carton (which originally held twelve packets of Cream Crackers) dates from the fifties, and the company advertises ‘by appointment to Her Majesty’ on the front. There was no real need to decorate the humble cardboard box so elaborately but McVitie & Price were clearly proud enough of their product to use a three colour design. I would imagine that’s the printer’s initial on the base of the box too. The box also has a numbering system, to enable grocer’s to tell which were the oldest stock. Somebody had stored their collection of old beer mats in it when I found it.
