Jigsaw boxes

A trio of vintage jig-saw boxes from the late Fifties and early Sixties. The one above is titled The Busy Airport, issued by Tru-Cut in their Modern Travel series. It has a really atmospheric illustration which shows a number of historic airplanes, all of which can be readily identified.; They include a large transport plane, The Blackburn Beverley, being loaded. There is an RAF Javelin jet close by and a Vulcan bomber (in white) taking off. Various ground crew are busy at work. The illustration decorates a bright and breezy box with hand drawn lettering in various styles, and a great angled Modern Travel logo. Issued during the late 1950s I would think.

More modern British engineering below, in the shape of an up to the minute diesel locomotive fronting The South Wales Pullman, in bright saturated colours. The series is quite a random selection of subjects. The slightly less gaudy lettering suggests the Sixties.

Lastly a classic motor racing illustration, featuring a real sense of speed and excitement. In the same series but a little earlier, judging by the cars. The illustration is very well done, and signed by Balley, though I cannot find out any more about him. It reminds me of the sort of work which decorated Scalextric box lids. It is titled Fighting For The Lead.
