Maybe David Attenborough is responsible for the addition of Penguins to our lexicon of Christmas iconography, if so he has helped create another tidal wave of far east manufactured tat. Designed to hang on a tree, these little glass buggers stared out at me accusingly from under a garden centre shelf last winter, a place where I spend far too much time (the garden centre, not the shelf) marvelling at the sheer amount of needless rubbish offered up for sale. They each appear to have a set of earphones on, I don’t know why. Any excuse to further diminish the earth’s resources I suppose!
